Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and guided by the procedures of Ambulatory Services, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is responsible for providing nursing care to patients in the ambulatory setting. The LVN will play a critical role in the patient experience including optimizing clinic flow, providing in and outreach to patients and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to create a patient centered environment. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Practice Manager, Administrative Director, and Providers, the LVN has the clinical responsibility for developing and maintaining a high standard of patient care for patients of all specialties at Redwood Shores Specialty Care – these include Urology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology. The LVN is responsible for daily clinical operations and maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff. All components of nursing care will be individualized to meet the patient’s physiological, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental level and needs. The LVN consistently projects a professional and courteous demeanor, helps establish and maintain the highest service standards for the practice and complies with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $43.00 - $53.94 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Redwood Shores Specialty Care Clinic is a clinical site that offers both Adult and Pediatric multi-specialty services in one shared location. The core specialties located at this site are Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, Audiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Orthotics & Prosthetics, and Urology. Sterile Processing and Radiology are also located on site and provide basic plain film services. The staff includes Patient Care/Practice Coordinators, Medical Assistants, Nurses (RNs & LVNs), Athletic Trainers, and Allied Health Professionals.

Required Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of related healthcare experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent LVN experience in ambulatory outpatient clinic setting
  • Working experience with clinical procedures: IM injections, post op wound care, assisting with sterile procedures
  • Strong clinical procedure skills (i.e. phlebotomy, injections, etc.)
  • Experience working with pediatric, adult and geriatric patients
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Knowledge of COVID protocols and coordination of care workflows
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • The ability to prioritize multiple tasks, while providing the highest quality of customer service
  • Experience developing and implementing new workflows
  • Experience providing staff education
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of staff
  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in procedural area
  • Experience in ambulatory
  • Related experience working with urology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology/head & neck surgery and/or audiology
  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems
  • Experience working in an academic health system

License/Certification

  • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
